Community Signs that say a lot more.

Eco-friendly wooden British community signs made to order by Ingrained Culture.

Posts and fixing battens are also Grown in Britain. The posts in these photographs, are planed smooth and painted white, to add another aesthetic appeal.

An example of Ingrained Culture's environmentally friendly signs for community groups.

Community Covid-19 public memorial and yes it's made from British sustainable wood.

One of Scotland's Community Covid-19 memorials.

A Scottish handmade wooden community COVID-19 memorial made by Ingrained Culture.

This is a 'light touch' covid memorial, a marker in time. It's a Peek-a-Boo panel, with round, square and diamond shape windows for under 5s to use. The idea is that older children and older generations will recognise the rainbow, its significance and the NHS associations. There is no written reference  to the pandemic as none is needed. But, for the under 5s, all they see is fun exciting colours, hope and future.

Public Art installation made from sustainable British grown wood. Made by Ingrained Culture.

A wave to our past, is a Public Art sculpture. My clients are a Community Group and the design came about through extensive collaboration between myself and my instructing client. It is a modern wavy shape made entirely from ‘Grown in Britain’ 100% legal and sustainable wood, grown in Scotland. It has an all-weather coating making it suitable for permanent outside installation. You will see on closer inspection that both sides of the structure are carved with various facts and references (including a poem) to the social history of the village in which it is located.

Popular Questions

  • Can we talk about an idea in its early stages?

Oh yes, please do contact me. I know just how long these things take to come about, don't worry how early on it is.

  • We're committed to Ecology, are you?

All my work is about delivering modern contemporary meaning, through the exclusive use of British grown 100% legal and sustainable wood. Practical and fit for purpose.

  • Can you help with our funding application?

My 'green' credentials and very low carbon manufacturing techniques usually tick many of the boxes when it comes to funding applications. I can provide you with with lots of info.

  • We want to be actively involved in the design of our project.

Good! I positively encourage your participation in the design of all my work, whether it is a simple sign or a complex public art sculpture, you'll be there every step of the way.

  • Do you cover the whole UK?

Although I'm based in Scotland, and often work for Scottish groups and charites, I cover the whole UK.

  • We have very specific requirements and there's not much room for arty waffle.

Sounds good to me, as an artificer I will make what ever you want, I will happily make suggestions or keep my own ideas to myself if you've already decided exactly what it is you want.

Signs or public art?

Whether you're looking for signs that relate to your community, or a sculpture to commemorate an event, popular figure or aspiration for the future, I make it all. Fully consultative design service, regular video updates that can be shared through your social media.

How are the signs made?

All my signs, are heavily made from Scottish grown Larch. They are laminated and end up about 35 -40 mm thick and can be any size or shape. I make them to be long lasting and robust. They are finished in a high quality, high gloss yacht varnish to protect their natural appearance and colour. Your sign will benefit from some future maintenance by re-applying new varnish once every three or four years.

Signs, and information panels.

I understand these things take time.

I can turn an order into a delivered finished product in a matter of a few weeks. However, I also understand if you are a voluntary group or dealing with a number of people/groups, it often takes weeks or months to reach a consensus - no problem. My design process is a fully consultative one and so too are the regular updates when the work is actually underway. I like to think I'm fully attuned to the needs of groups and councils.

What my clients say :

We have been delighted to work with Robert at Ingrained Culture in our work to improve Seaview Community Park, Gourdon. The park is a community space to be enjoyed by all generations and Robert's input has enabled us to come up with creative ideas to incorporate key aspects of the history and culture of the village into the infrastructure of the park. We began with a simple idea for a sign to name the park but Robert was able to take our rambling thoughts and come up with practical designs which far exceeded our expectations. His beautiful sail shaped sign has attracted positive comment from all those who pass it. Robert took care of the entire process from design and build to installation which, as a small committee with limited resources to call upon, was a great help and as a result we were keen to work with him again. He is also committed to the use of sustainable materials which fits with our own ethos in enhancing this scenic part of our community. We have now secured funding for an entrance sculpture which has only been possible thanks to Robert's willingness to develop design ideas and costings which have all been provided in an extremely efficient manner, despite initially working on good will alone! We can't wait to see the finished installation later in the year as we know it will be constructed to the same high standard he has demonstrated throughout our partnership.
