Scottish grown Larch wood every time. You will assume that oak may be a better option because most sign makers only offer oak. I've never understood why. In my opinion, oak is one of the most unsuitable species for sign making. 

It depends on your priorities and Robert at Ingrained Culture offers various alternatives. Your number one priority  may be price, longevity or environmental responsibility. Robert's approach to these priorities will be different. For example, OSMO oil for those who want to spend the least amount possible, for longevity Robert will seal all the end grain with epoxy resin and over varnish with a polyurethane varnish. For the vertical face surfaces Robert will apply an impregnating oil to repel moisture and finish with multiple coats of high quality yacht varnish.  If you main priority is environmental responsibility then a natural wax will be the most appropriate. Please ask Robert about the highest Eco-sign specification which is also 100% biodegradable. 

There are many factors that will affect how often you'll need to maintain your sign. Of course what finishing materials you chose initially to have your sign treated with is a big factor, but the biggest consideration is the micro climate of the environment in which the sign is installed. If your sign is very sheltered and rarely gets direct sunshine, it could be several years before you need to do anything. On the other hand, if your sign is very exposed to salt laden high winds and direct harsh sunshine then you will probably need to lightly sand all surfaces and re-apply varnish every 18months to two years. 

Most wood species can both warp and crack. However, Robert at Ingrained Culture has developed lamination techniques to mitigate against both warping and cracking. I hand paint all images and I can replicate any logo or image in full colour using sign writers' enamels that are hard wearing and have UV inhibitors. 

I can either carve your logo or other complementary image in either full 3D or in relief. Relief carving is cheaper as it takes less time to achieve. But 3D carving has tremendous impact. Both options are hand carved by Robert not by CNC machine.

During the free of charge design process, you will receive drawings of each option available, from which you will choose the final design. The design process is creative, efficient and exciting, Robert will guide you through the options via personalised video consultations that you can share with your team.   

Well, it all depends on how simple or ornate your design is. It can take as few as 10 day or up to 10 weeks, but Robert will talk you through the timing at the design stage. You will also receive regular video updates throughout every stage of the making of your sign and so you will always know and be involved with every decision.

It depends on how you measure success. If your main priority is longevity, then plastic or aluminium will probably be better options. But if environmental responsibility is your number one priority then I would say a wooden sign from Ingrained Culture will be a better option. If aesthetic appeal is the most important factor, then again, a wooden sign from Ingrained Culture is worth considering first.
